Dereck Whittenburg is a former American basketball player and coach. He is best known for his time playing at North Carolina State University, where he helped lead the team to a national championship in 1983. Whittenburg played the shooting guard position and was known for his sharpshooting abilities.
After his playing career, Whittenburg went on to a successful coaching career, serving as an assistant coach at various universities including NC State, Georgia Tech, and Fordham. He also served as the head coach at Wagner College and Fordham University.
Whittenburg is currently the Director of Player Development for the NC State men's basketball team. He is also a television analyst for college basketball games and a motivational speaker. Whittenburg remains a beloved figure in the NC State basketball community and is remembered for his contributions to the team's legendary championship run in 1983.
